DISASTER RESPONSE

Morris Chapel United Methodist Church is committed to serving those across the globe.

NC Storm Emergency Response

Sometimes typical methods of disaster response financing for storm-related emergencies are inadequate. In these situations, conference appeals are issued for costs related to mitigating the disaster – direct support to affected families and costs in delivering assistance.  This year, you tithed 10% of Harvest Sale proceeds to supplement a number of special offerings to assist Hurricane Matthew survivors across the North Carolina Annual Conference with the short term recovery.

United Methodist

Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

UMCOR responds to disasters of great magnitude that overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on its own. Through UMCOR, United Methodists extend loving care to suffering people throughout the world. UMCOR works in partnership with United Methodist Churches and other local partners to address immediate relief and achieve sustainable recovery. This is done in a manner that is consistent with global initiatives, standards, and best practices, with respect for the individuals, families, and communities who “own their recovery.”

UMCOR Sunday is what allows UMCOR to act as the arms and legs of Christ’s church, moving toward the most vulnerable in their darkest days. Convinced that all people have God-given worth and dignity—without regard to race, religion or gender—together we are assisting those impacted by crisis or chronic need.  The United Methodist Church’s compassionate response to human suffering continues today. When tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma, we responded. When children in Zimbabwe lost parents to AIDS, we responded. When a massive tsunami devastated lives in Japan, we responded and when the next mass crisis occurs, we will be prepared to respond.
